G1000 Procedural Training
No computer required. Everything you need is included.
The aircraft is a terrible classroom, even Garmin says so (excerpt from their G1000 handbook):
Chair flying through a two-dimensional platform is certainly better than nothing, but for the ultimate learning, it’s best to practice on something with real knobs and buttons. It’s all about building muscle memory.
Without the required conditioning to the G1000 hardware and user interface, it can be extremely frustrating trying to navigate through pages, menus, submenus, entering text, and using the system in general.
About the Hardware
The G1000 procedural trainer uses dual iPads with G1000 style hardware to simulate nearly every function of a G1000 flight deck.
It’s not actual Garmin hardware so the buttons and knobs feel a little funny. It’s also not built for the DA40 NG and is not the latest G1000 version (NXi) but it still includes a number of useful features.
This setup uses SIMiONIC hardware and software. If you’d like, you can purchase the SIMiONIC PFD and MFD apps from the iOS App Store on your own iPad. Visit simionic.net for more information on features and functionality.
No matter what phase of training you are in, there are loads of ways to brush up on your G1000 skills. One of the most valued features is learning basic buttonology and the “language” of the interface.
